ViSE: measurement and growth
The measurement engine within MTRX. It supports defined metrics, analytics calculations, progress tracking, reporting and outcomes over time.
Every metric is documented
Each metric states five things.
- Source data
- Calculation method
- Refresh frequency
- Limitations
- Applicable consent controls

Examples of measurement
Illustrative; each is defined per project.
Infrastructure
Energy generated, uptime and usage of a node, where instrumented.
Campus
Participation and progress across activities, with consent.
Programme
Outcomes over time for a defined cohort or site.
Measure what matters
The physical world produces signals. ViSE turns authorised data into structured indicators. Not every important outcome fits a single conventional metric, so each metric is defined for its project.
Personal
- Learning
- Participation
- Achievement
- Growth
Institutional
- Engagement
- Utilisation
- Sustainability
- Learning outcomes
- Community participation
Environmental
- Energy
- Carbon
- Air quality
- Resource utilisation
- Infrastructure impact
These are examples of measurable areas. A metric is offered only when its data source is connected and its method is documented. Carbon and energy figures need assumptions, a time period and a method.
What a documented metric looks like
Illustrative template. Values are placeholders, not results.
| Field | Example (illustrative) |
|---|---|
| Name | Node energy generated |
| Source data | Charge-controller log of a specific node |
| Calculation | Sum of generated energy over the period, stated in kWh |
| Refresh | Daily |
| Limitations | Excludes periods when the logger was offline |
| Consent controls | Not applicable (no personal data) |
| Status | To be confirmed |
